SideNotch

Give your Mac another notch.

Extra notches beside the camera — not a replacement for the one you already have. Each side holds a deck of jobs. Hover to expand, flip with the arrows, mute from the footer.

You can keep that one.
Drag a SideNotch. Hover the camera housing.

Your Mac has more room up here than you think.

The menu bar and the bezel are persistent real estate. SideNotch hangs extra notches to the left and right of the camera housing. The physical notch stays put. Each extra notch runs one job at a time.

What the extra notch is for

  • 1. Read a script

Teleprompter sits under the camera. Drop a local .txt, .md, or .rtf. Eyes stay on the lens.

  • 2. Grab a paste

The last thing you copied, still on this Mac. History never leaves the machine.

  • 3. Open the download

The newest file in ~/Downloads, from the top edge. No trip to the Dock.

Collapsed, then open

Hover the pill to expand the active job and the footer — previous, mute, settings, next. Leave to collapse. Click still opens it if you want it to stay.

One job, then a footer. Hover to expand. Leave to collapse.

One notch wasn't enough.

Left and right run on their own. Put notes on one side and Now Playing on the other. Volume stays in the footer.

Your clipboard should stay your clipboard.

Local jobs remain local. Clipboard history, notes, filenames, URLs, launched app names, and Music or Spotify titles never leave the Mac. SideNotch does not take Accessibility, screen recording, or input-monitoring permission.

Put jobs where your hands already are

Questions

Can't I Build this myself?

Yes. You can. I built SideNotch in three days. Buying it is a better use of your time than spending those days recreating it. Read how to calculate what an hour of your time is worth.

Does this replace the MacBook notch?

No. The physical camera housing stays put. SideNotch hangs extra notches to the left and right of it.

Does this work on Macs without a notch?

Yes. On notchless displays, SideNotches sit inset from the left and right edges of the menu bar.

Does this work with external monitors?

Yes. Each display can have its own SideNotches. Frames recalculate when screens change.

Does it cover the menu bar?

No. The pills hang from the top edge. The left SideNotch stays clear of the Apple menu.

Does it work full screen?

Yes. SideNotch stays available with a full-screen space.

What macOS versions are supported?

macOS 14 Sonoma and later.

Does SideNotch collect clipboard data?

No. Clipboard history never leaves the Mac.

Does SideNotch run in the background?

Yes. It is an agent app. Idle CPU should stay near zero.

Can I use only one SideNotch?

Yes. Left, right, or both.

How do updates work?

Sparkle, signed when Developer ID credentials are present.
